3 killed by Ukrainian attacks in Russia

Ukrainian forces carried out multiple attacks in Russia on Saturday, killing at least three people in the Russian border town of Belgorod, Russian officials said.

An oil refinery in Russia's Samara region was also hit by Ukrainian military strikes.

A man and two women were killed and three other people were wounded by Ukrainian shelling in Belgorod, said the region's governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

He added that five other people were injured by a Ukrainian drone strike that hit a car in the village of Glotovo, about two kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

An oil refinery owned by Russian oil giant Rosneft in the Samara region was engulfed in fire, the region's governor, Dmitry Azarov, said.

No casualties were reported from the attack on the refinery in this region, which is located about 850 kilometers southeast of Moscow.

Ukraine carried out the attacks a day after Russia attacked the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa with missiles and drones, killing 20 people and injuring more than 70 others.

Two Russian Iskander-M missiles fired from Russian-occupied Crimea hit a residential area in Odesa, the region's governor, Oleh Kiper, said.

Some of the dead were medics and rescuers who were killed by a second missile after they went to the scene to treat those injured by the first missile, Kiper said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Russian forces that attacked the Ukrainian Black Sea port city on Friday will receive a "fair response" from Kiev's forces.

The attacks also come as Russians are voting on the second day of a presidential election in which President Vladimir Putin is almost certain to win another six years in power after cracking down on dissent and critical voices.

Putin has accused Kiev of trying to prevent the holding of the Russian presidential elections./ REL
