22 Russian diplomats left Moldova as relations between the two countries worsened.

Moldova last month ordered Moscow to withdraw most of its delegation.

Moldovan officials have said that reducing staff at the Russian embassy to 25 from 80 will bring parity with the Moldovan embassy in Moscow.

Moldovan media published a video of two buses being escorted from the Russian embassy by police and moving towards the airport.

A source at the Chisinau airport told Reuters that the plane carrying the embassy personnel was headed to the Russian city of Sochi, from where it would continue to Moscow. Twenty-three technical assistance workers and their families were asked to leave along with the diplomats.

According to Moldova's foreign ministry, no more than 10 Russian diplomats and 15 support staff can stay in Chisinau from Tuesday.
