Suddenly, yesterday, the media serving the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was filled with a piece of news, a magnificent "fake news" of the kind that is always produced as soon as important trials or issues related to the Constitutional Court, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court approach, always when they are related to the troubles of the self-proclaimed "Zdroms".

A media attack begins and it is continuous, unstoppable. We have seen it for almost a year, but let's focus on the most recent actions.

So, protection from the criminal process and not protection in the criminal process seems to be the main goal of the defendant Erion Veliaj during these months of the preliminary investigation, but also of the trial in the preliminary session. For us, it is a very important element that shows the climate created in relation to the Special Prosecution Office, but also with the judge in the preliminary investigation. Let us not forget here that from open sources also, these actors of the justice system, namely prosecutors of the Special Prosecution Office, but also judges, have been described as active members of a party that belongs to the opposition in Albania. They have been described as connected, or at least only the prosecutor, with close developmental and constructive interests. This is a situation that creates a climate of influence not only on the justice bodies and even more so we can imagine the effect it creates on the witnesses, but also on the witnesses of justice who are a vital, essential part of this process.

Veliaj has requested a mitigation of the measure and the prosecutors have argued that the intimidating climate continues. It is the prosecution's right to present arguments. As it is the court's right to accept them or not. They have built the narrative as if SPAK has requested an extension of detention because he has hired American lawyers. This is completely false.

What does Erion Veliaj want, that the prosecutors not speak in the court session? That only Erion speak? That they not present their facts and arguments? That only Erion speak? What do they want?

Why don't these media outlets that accuse prosecutors report what Erion Veliaj said in the various hearings? Or do the lawyers make sure to cut out and only publish the parts that interest them? Would we see any surprises from what Veliaj says in court?

They haven't been to court for seven months. Why don't they go to hold court hearings against Erion Veliaj? But they use 1001 tricks, they go all the way to the US, they lobby with lies, they claim that the prosecutors have requested additional permits that Veliaj has never published, but they take the minutes and publish them in a hurry.

Where is the sentence that the prosecutors told us was wrong or should Erion Veliaj stay in prison for hiring American lawyers?

On the contrary, if you read the text they say: "He lobbied, he lobbied, he continued his work, but this created this climate."

If we look at this text as it has been "given" to us by the misleading media, not a single line has said that hiring American lawyers was the reason for him to remain in prison.

Whether Carlo Bollino, Mero Baze, and all the media outlets that have published the minutes at the behest of lawyers or lobbyists, or my brother, or whoever, find this phrase for us, it doesn't matter.

At no point is it stated that hiring foreign lawyers was the reason for his imprisonment, but the prosecutor spoke about the climate created in relation to witnesses.

The disinformation or scenario games have now reached higher levels of intimidation. It is the same situation where the same media abused and deceived with the word "filth" months ago.

It was said that there is an audio where the word "filth" was used and when you listened to the audio, there was no such word, and in this case they say that the prosecutors have said that he has hired American lawyers and should stay in prison. You read the whitewashed text and they are oblivious to the texts that they write themselves.

Therefore, it is very important to understand and separate lies from truth. Even in the case when they have issued the minutes themselves, when they create abusive titles, deceptions, make editorial notes simply and solely to lie to people or create wrong opinions, they are exposed. It is enough to read the text of the minutes that they have published themselves to understand that they have deceived again.

In the end, the purpose of these manipulations with the minutes is simply to get to other lobbying reports. But neither the Senate nor the US Department of Justice operates with false reports sent by Erion Veliaj's lobbying law firm./ CNA
