Murder of judge/ Former head of the Appeals Court, Malaj: Police officers must

Former head of the Court of Appeal, Alaudin Malaj, has spoken about the event that shocked public opinion, the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja.

Malaj expressed that this event was a great shock to him, considering it the most serious since 1993 until 2022.

In an interview, Malaj said that security measures have been stricter and there has been better coordination with the police.

He said that the only concession he has today is that the police officer is not present.

"He was a great friend to me, to be killed in a courtroom is even more serious. From 1993-2022, such an event has never happened."

Security measures have been absolutely stricter. There has been better coordination with the police.

We had state police officers present, we had connections with the highest people in the Ministry of Interior. It was indisputable that the groups were at the disposal of the judges. Not like today when we get 129.

The only concession we have today is that the police officer is not present. People fear the police because they represent the state. Security guards guard the building, not the judge.

Police avoidance of courts constitutes the biggest problem.

There was a police officer in every court. Today, the Court of Appeals has no police officers. Call on the Prime Minister to deploy police in the courts. Police forces should be restored to protect judges, not only 1st but also 2nd and 3rd.

In our time, in addition to the police, there were also court employees, they all had hand-held detectors, they stood in the courtroom corridors, but today the detector at the outer gate can function.

"The reconstruction of the courtroom, what we did in 2013, the audio video system, the Court of Appeal is monitored with the courtrooms. Anyone who comes and does a rash act, will see that there are cameras everywhere. And the public room is separated from the courtroom. There was no chance that this murder could happen," Malaj said./ CNA
