Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke today regarding this Thursday's decision by the Constitutional Court to suspend the President's decree for the part that sets the date of the elections in the Municipality of Tirana. 

In a television appearance, Lala stated that according to her information, the Constitutional Court met yesterday for the case.

Lala indicated that during the meeting, discussions for and against were held, as well as fierce debates.

"The Constitutional Court suspended the decree on the elections. It is a fair and expected decision, as it would undermine the constitution. The Constitutional Court met yesterday, there were discussions for and against, there were fierce debates. There was no decision yesterday. And today they met again and the decision was taken unanimously to suspend Begaj's decree.

On October 31, it will consider Veliaj's request to be revoked as unconstitutional as mayor. The election procedures should be suspended after this decision of the CC. But practices have shown that the socialist majority has not implemented the decisions in the past.

"My fear is that perhaps with the strength of the cards they have in the Assembly and having an opposition that cannot stop them, they can hold the elections. Begaj's decree was contrary to the law. From the moment they were decreed, I have said that it undermines the foundation of democracy and the rule of law," said Lala. /CNA
