Erosion deepens near the Verdova riverbed/ Citizens and road traffic at risk

Erosion near the Verdova riverbed is deepening rapidly, creating a major risk to the safety of citizens and road traffic.

Problems have appeared not only in the segment where the road collapsed, but also in other parts of this axis, making the situation unstable. The first rains of December seem to have accelerated the damage to the roadway, and images provided by CNA clearly show the alarming condition of the Pogradec ring road.

Currently, traffic is limited to one lane along a segment of about 500 meters, while the foundations of some surrounding walls have also been damaged by flooding and continuous water erosion. This situation endangers not only the road infrastructure, but also the safety of drivers and residents living near the river.

At the time the damage was noticed, the Municipality stated that it was not able to make an immediate investment, however, it had a ready project, which would be sent to the Ministry for financing. However, the ongoing situation of erosion shows that emergency interventions are necessary to prevent further collapses and possible accidents.

Residents and drivers are demanding that authorities act as soon as possible to guarantee safe traffic and avoid worsening the road condition, which has already become a serious problem for the entire city. /CNA
