Director of the Institute of Municipalities, Agron Haxhimali, analyzed today the situation of the work so far on the Administrative-Territorial Reform.

Invited to "Syri TV", Haxhimali said that there is something wrong while the majority is demanding a re-hearing of the opposition's demands.

According to the expert, in Albania we should no longer have a collapse of municipalities, but other ways must be found to cope with this type of lack of services and representation.

"The majority has heard the concerns, despite trying to defend it as a success, but the fact that in 2022 it set up a commission again to correct it and has already accepted the opposition's request in 2025 to work together shows that something is wrong. The opposition has monitored it, the opposition is under extremely great pressure from various interest groups, from different communities, from personalities, figures who know history, tradition, identity, but above all from citizens who are not receiving what the 2014 reform promised. So the opposition has rightly monitored it, has collected these complaints and the truth is that in a general articulation of the opposition, according to the voice and demands of citizens, they are demanding a greater number of local government units. But this is not a goal in itself, the number, for the opposition, but it is the distribution of power, the sending of power to some areas that have been out of attention and this is normal for the sake of "The truth is, and these demands, I said, the opposition defends them more, but the majority is also facing the fact day by day that reform, we should not have anymore shrinkage of municipalities, but we must find other ways to cope with this kind of lack of services and representation," said Haxhimali./CNA
