KLSH Report: Patients 6 months without chemotherapy

The Supreme State Audit Office has published a report on oncology drugs at the University Hospital, revealing shocking data.

According to data for a 6-month period, many patients have been left without chemotherapy due to a lack of drugs and the failure of the supply system.

"Shortages have been repeated, and in some supply contracts, the period without medicines has lasted up to 6 months," the KLSH report states.

During verifications at the Central Pharmacy at the QSUT, long periods were also found where the stock of medicines was zero, both in the central hospital warehouse and in the pharmacy that directly supplies the oncology wards.

"Cases were identified where the condition was 0 for periods longer than 1 week, risking the treatment of patients," the report highlights.

According to the Albanian Supreme Audit Office, most of the medical protocols used today in Oncology are more than a decade old.

"A significant portion of the clinical practice protocols at the 'Mother Teresa' University Hospital Center date back to 2014, with a lack of systematic updates during this period," the SAI report states.

The Supreme State Audit Office has urgently requested the Ministry of Health to create a working group to update medical protocols and guarantee a stable supply of medicines, as the lives of citizens have been put at risk./ CNA
