After being dismissed from office/ Former judge wins battle in Strasbourg,

Former judge Ervin Metalla has won the battle at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where he had appealed his dismissal from office at the Court of Appeal in Tirana.

Strasbourg argues that the dismissal decision was disproportionate and in violation of Article 8 of the ECHR.

"The Court found a violation of Article 8 because the applicant's dismissal was not shown to be proportionate to the legitimate aims pursued," the decision said.

The Strasbourg Court has also ordered Metalla to pay compensation from the Albanian state, with 20,400 euros for material damages, 6,000 euros for non-material damages and 6,000 euros for legal costs.

The decision is unanimous and obliges the Albanian state to make payments within three months, while the rest of Metalla's requests have been rejected. /CNA
