"We have no meeting point with Librazhd"/ Citizens of Prrenjas protest

The citizens of Përrenjas are holding a protest today against the Socialist Party's plan for Territorial Reform, which they say merges this municipality with that of Librazhd.

One of the protesters stated that with the return of Prrenjas to the administrative unit of Librazhd, the cultural and educational values ??of the area will be lost.

He further added that they have no connection with the culture and customs of Librazhd and that they want self-government. He also warned during his speech that the protest could escalate until this plan is implemented.

"This is a great tragedy. This area will lose its cultural, educational and other values. Local government units are organized on the basis of territories. We have no cultural or customary ties with Librazhd, we have no point of contact with them. We have our own water resources and we administer them ourselves. There is no need to dissolve the municipality of Prrenjas because it has sufficient professional and intellectual capacities.

We do not want gradations but self-government. Those people who we voted for and represent us must return our honor and save Prrenjas. We will be ready and we will stand up for our city. We will save Prrenjas from an erasure of our identity and all the resources we have. We will stand strong but why not escalate our protest until we achieve our goal", the citizen expressed.

A few days ago, the socialist co-chair of the Commission for Administrative-Territorial Reform stated that this time the aim is to create a smaller number of municipalities compared to the current number. /CNA
