The number of cars in Albania reaches 1.05 million, one in three Albanians owns

At the end of 2025, the number of registered road vehicles (with active status or temporarily deregistered) reached 1,048,092 vehicles, marking an increase of 9.3% compared to 2024.

Cars constitute 80.8% of total road vehicles.

The number of cars per 1,000 inhabitants increased to 361, from 326 in 2024. An Albanian has more than 1 car.

By region, Tirana has the largest number of road vehicles, accounting for 34.7% of the total, followed by Durrës (13.6%) and Fier (9.1%).

The Durrës region has the highest level of motorization in the country, with 535 cars per 1,000 inhabitants.

The majority of vehicles on the road are old. Vehicles aged 11–20 years make up 45.7% of the total number of vehicles.

Vehicles with manual transmissions account for 55.9% of the total number of road vehicles.
Vehicles manufactured during the period 2000–2010 account for 55.3% of the total number of road vehicles.

The most popular brands, Volkswagen dominates

The Volkswagen brand is the most widespread among cars in the country, with 19.7% of the total, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 18.1%.

Fuel, oil dominates, but electric cars almost double

Oil will remain the dominant fuel for cars in 2025, accounting for 72.1% of the total. But in recent years there has been an increase in electric vehicles. The number of electric cars increased by 91.2%, compared to 2024./Monitor
