Another SPAK defendant comes out in favor of Sokol Sadushi

Former Socialist MP, Plarent Ndreca, one of the well-known names in the justice system, also considered a defendant by SPAK, has come out in support of the head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, regarding his stance on the issue of pre-trial detention.

In a television studio, Ndreca openly came out in favor of Sadushi regarding the case of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and former president Ilir Meta.

In fact, Ndreca's problem is Veliaj, while Meta is simply used as a variant, since the latter is not an official, but a former official.

The cases are completely different, as Veliaj is a serving mayor, while Ilir Meta has no evidence to back down.

"From every possible direction comes criticism on the issue of security measures, respecting the criteria and conditions for imposing a security measure. There has also been strong criticism from the EU. You know that a few weeks ago, the EU's human rights director strongly criticized pre-trial detention in Albania, just as he criticized the way the courts decide on determining the criteria or deadlines for staying in pre-trial detention, which is not evaluated dynamically as the Strasbourg Court has decided. The Supreme Court is late. This initiative by the President of the Supreme Court is to be welcomed, but it is late. Because the Supreme Court is the one that should actually block cases that have become a reason to change the practice, such as the Hysaj or Gëllçi case. The Supreme Court should not have allowed these cases to go to Strasbourg and Albania to be punished. Referring to Strasbourg's practices, in two cases that I know of at least, they would not have gone to these extreme measures. Erion Veliaj would not have gone in 'prison arrest' if this were the practice. Because Veliaj also has a mandate given by the citizens, he is in office and has a mandate reconfirmed by the Constitutional Court. For Ilir Meta, perhaps it could have been done, but not for the measure to be extended for so long. The fact that the president of our state is in prison is not something that should not be considered. Veliaj and Meta are in the Constitutional Court. Only if the Constitutional Court maintains the same measures, a new request for a change of measure can serve the decision of the Supreme Court and new requests for a replacement measure, "said Ndreca. /CNA
