UN Under-Secretary-General Haoliang Xu visits Albania tomorrow

The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Acting Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Haoliang Xu, begins a 2-day high-level visit to Albania tomorrow.

This visit aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between Albania and UNDP, to advance shared priorities on the European Union accession process and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

It is reported that Xu will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama and members of the government cabinet, as well as with national and international development partners in Albania.

Discussions will focus on Albania's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and membership in the European Union.

Part of the agenda is a visit to see first-hand the schools rebuilt from scratch, as part of the EU4Schools project, funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP. So far, this project has repaired and rebuilt 62 out of 63 educational facilities damaged by the 2019 earthquake, ensuring safe and modern learning environments for thousands of students and teachers.

It is learned that during the visit, Xu will have meetings with UNDP's international partners to strengthen cooperation in mobilizing financing for the SDGs, promoting inclusive economic growth, and increasing environmental sustainability. /CNA
