"Do not share personal information"/ The Banking Association warns

The Albanian Banking Association has warned citizens about several fraudulent phone calls made via the internet.

According to the SHSHB announcement, callers may communicate in different languages ??and request bank card details or other personal information with the claim of stopping certain suspicious actions carried out with the citizen's bank card.

The Banking Association calls on citizens to exercise increased caution and in cases of a suspicious call not to share any personal information.

PUBLIC NOTICE ABOUT FRAUDULENT CALLS MADE THROUGH VOIP TECHNOLOGY

The Albanian Banking Association would like to inform the public about several recent cases of fraudulent phone calls made through VOIP technology (phone calls over the internet).

In recent days, there have been reports of phone calls from addresses with suffixes such as “@gmail” or other platforms, where the name of a bank is used. During the call, the bank’s name or logo may appear on the screen, creating the impression that the call is coming from the bank, while in fact it is a fraud attempt.

These types of calls are made over the internet and the true identity of the caller cannot be verified through these addresses (e.g. @gmail, @instagram or other platforms).

During calls, callers may communicate in different languages ??and request bank card details or other personal information with the claim of stopping some suspicious actions performed with your card.

The Albanian Banking Association reminds customers that:

• Banks in Albania will never ask you for bank card details, PIN, security codes or other confidential information over the phone.

• If you receive a suspicious call, do not share any personal information and hang up the call immediately.

• Verify every communication by contacting your bank only through the official numbers published by the bank.

• Report any suspicious activity to your bank immediately.

The Albanian Banking Association and member banks remain committed to raising awareness and protecting customers from financial fraud attempts. / CNA
