Karakaçi inspects Tirana bypass works: Strategic node for connecting

The Tirana Bypass is another important infrastructure project for which field work has begun in the first two phases. This work has a length of 21 kilometers and the project foresees the construction of a category A road (main interurban road).

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, together with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, inspected the progress of the works for this project, where so far over 30% of the physical works have been completed.

Minister Karakaçi praised the Tirana bypass as a strategic project as it enables the connection between the Milot - Thumanë - Kashar highway with the continuation of the Kashar-Lekaj highway, part of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, as well as the connection of the Durrës-Tirana highway with the Tirana-Elbasan highway, part of Corridor VIII, bypassing the city of Tirana.

"In fact, it is among the most strategic construction sites that we have, because it connects the Adriatic-Ionian corridor, Thumanë-Kashar and then the continuation of Kashar-Lekaj, the following highway and also the connection between Tirana-Durres and the Elbasan highway, avoiding the entrance to the city of Tirana," said Karakaçi.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy further emphasized that the project will also address the concerns and demands of the local community, while the construction of local roads is also foreseen to enable access for residents and businesses on both sides of this road segment.

For his part, the ARRSH director said that so far the works have had a positive progress, with the aim of completing them even before the deadline foreseen in the contract. "The progress is quite positive. Here, several different works of art are included in this contract, we have manholes, drainage channels, retaining walls, which are made of concrete, but also with a gabion facade, while there is also a bridge, with a length of 53 linear meters, with three light spans", announced Kozeli.

In both phases of this construction site, work is being carried out in parallel on the construction of the road body as well as the artwork./ CNA
