Execution of Judge Kalaja/Çollaku: Justice Reform, Total Failure

Journalist Basir Çollaku has stated that the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja yesterday at the Court of Appeals is an attack on justice reform.

He said that the loss of citizens' trust in justice institutions could lead to self-justification. In a television appearance, the journalist said that the justice reform has been a total failure and that it needs to be redone.

"I would say it was a terrorist act that took place inside the courtroom and what we expect justice to be. It is also an attack against justice reform.  We also see a decline and loss of trust in institutions. When execution enters the courtroom, it can also enter the prosecution.

The time frame for reviewing a legal case has been about 2 years, and today the nephew and uncle come to impose justice. Loss of trust in institutions can also lead to self-justification. Property attacks can also happen to citizens and they are under pressure to win. We are insecure about order and security.

We have also had the insertion of hands, documents and their alteration. The system has its control mechanisms. We also have some functionaries and officials who massacre the property issue. Did we have a prevention for this event? Undoubtedly we did. In 2014, some changes were made in the Courts. There is a delay in cases in the Courts. Why don't the institutions react in time?

"Judges can have about 20 files a day, and they don't have staff. There is a kind of compromise between the judiciary and the majority. I can say that resignation is also needed. There needs to be a reform in the judiciary from the ruling party in 2015. This reform is a total failure, and it needs to be redone," Çollaku said./CNA
