 Murder of judge/ Sula: Great tragedy, politics has fueled violence and distrust

Former Democratic Party MP Dashnor Sula today described the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja as a great tragedy for society, but also for employees in the justice system.

Invited to A2CNN, Sula stated that a large part of the blame for such events lies with politics, which according to him has fostered a climate of violence and distrust of justice.

"I express my most sincere condolences to the family of the judge who lost his life in the line of duty. This is a great tragedy. But I am concerned about the way politics is trying to compromise the event, with crocodile tears and mutual recriminations."

As long as the political environment is contaminated, people with criminal or disorderly tendencies feel inspired to commit such crimes. Politicians have fueled this climate with their rhetoric and attacks on justice.

Since 1992, we have seen prosecutors and judges removed or attacked for not following political orders. We cannot forget terms like 'boulevard whores', used by senior politicians to attack the judiciary. This does not happen in a normal state.

"In the period 2007-2012, we saw judges who paid 300 or 500 thousand euros to be appointed to the Supreme Court or the Constitutional Court. Politics has used and misused justice for its own interests and those of criminal gangs," said Sula. /CNA
