"It's not that a judge was killed"/ Bushati: Today he has

Analyst Andi Bushati has called the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja a very serious act, but according to him, the essence lies in another aspect.

Invited to 'Syri Tv', Bushati said that this event has put the seal on the public's claim that justice in Albania is bought and sold.

Bushati added that such events damage public trust in justice.

"We have been talking about justice reform for 10 years here, American-European justice, was it a success story or was it a monumental failure?"

If there were a milestone date that would mark the end of judicial reform, it would be this: the day a judge is killed while reading the verdict.

And why do I say this... Because they rely only on one foundation, on the public's trust in justice. Now, that man who took the gun, I don't know...maybe that decision would be given against him or if it was the fairest possible, but in the head of every Albanian citizen is that thought: this judge has taken money from the other side! Now this judge is cheating me! Because in these 10 years we have not managed to create the illusion of public trust in justice.

Today, when a person goes to court, he says: How much money do I have to buy it... and he doesn't think about whether he is right or not. And when he feels powerless to influence the judge, then he either takes the gun or goes home as a loser. But in this sense, it is not a political solution of the moment. So, it is not that a judge was killed today. Today he has received the stamp that the public says that justice is sold and bought.

"Even if Edi Rama leaves today, the damage they have done in these 10 years with this pseudo justice reform will have effects and murders for the next 50 years," Bushati said. /CNA
