The next hearing of the Territorial Reform Commission is taking place today in the city of Durrës. The Co-Chair of the Commission from the Democratic Party, Luçiano Boçi, stated during his speech that the need for a new reform came from the failure of the 2014 reform.

He further stated that Durrës is a typical example of the failure of the 2014 reform. According to him, construction continues within the city, while rural areas are left in oblivion.

"The failure of the 2014 reform has brought us here, despite the benefits for large urban centers. Meanwhile, for the citizenry it is a spectacular failure. Today we have two different realities. Developed municipalities and poor municipalities. We have rural areas completely forgotten. Schools and health centers have been closed and services have been removed.

A functional and territorial reform is needed. Acknowledging this failure, a job well started, continues well and ends well. Not even the EU has brought us here, the only requirement is that everything be in harmony with the local self-government charter. It is the citizens who have forced us to come here for this reform.

"Durres, a typical example of the failure of the 2014 reform. The three cities of Sukthi, Manza and Fushë Kruja were absorbed into the municipality of Durres. Here, constructions are rife within the city of Durres, in rural areas people struggle to find water supply or the road to their homes. A solution is needed and this need forces the DP to sit at the reform table ," said Boçi. /CNA
