Tragic accident in Durrës/ Muçollari accuses the State Police and

Democratic Party leadership member Grigels Muçollari has reacted after the tragic accident in Durrës where two minors lost their lives and another was injured.

Muçollari said that such events should not be used for politics, but stressed that there is a moral and public obligation to talk about security and institutional responsibility. According to him, the problem is related to the lack of prevention and effective functioning of law enforcement structures.

He harshly criticized the State Police, stating that it is failing to guarantee public safety and that, according to him, it has failed to prevent violations of the law.

In his statement, Muçollari also raised concerns about the urban development model in the country, citing the lack of public spaces and playgrounds for children, as well as the numerous constructions in cities such as Durrës and Tirana.

He accused the government of creating a model that, according to him, favors construction interests and corruption, emphasizing that this situation is increasing the risk to citizens.

Muçollari called on citizens and the opposition to protest and public reaction, emphasizing that changing the current model is necessary to avoid the recurrence of similar tragedies.

"To be honest, I would never want to start from this event, let alone do politics with such tragedies. But, in another aspect, I have the obligation and feel the weight of responsibility as a young politician, but also as a public figure to raise my voice on this issue. Which means that if we don't speak up, this is the situation and these are the situations that happen. And unfortunately, a large part of society from time to time chooses to remain silent and not speak out or runs to speak out only a few days after such tragedies happen and in those two or three days we speak out loud, but it's in vain how long you don't have continuity in speaking out about these events.

Exactly, and in this aspect I think that we all need to raise our voices. Every citizen, those children there, but every politician in the meantime should speak out about this issue, as it is an issue that is expected to hit our families more and more every day. What has happened in Durrës, apart from the aspect of affecting public safety, which means that the State Police no longer functions as a structure that provides public safety, but as a structure that, from time to time, allows lawbreakers, becomes part of lawbreakers, does not prevent events that should have been prevented.

I don't understand, if a man like the gentleman in question has violated the law several times, especially in relation to the use of alcoholic beverages, I don't understand how he can be free and even more so be driving a vehicle. So in this aspect, public safety has been affected and we are dealing with state police structures, which in one way or another have been disbanded and are not performing their qualitative function, which is to provide security for the lives of citizens.

But this is a context of the event. We need to see it a little more where we are all complicit, but definitely with the main culprit, with the model that created this event. We are all witnesses to how today our children have nowhere to play.

We all see that our children today can play either on a half-meter, 1 meter, 1.5 meter sidewalk at best, under the building, especially in urban cities like Durrës, Tirana, or anywhere else. Which means that the life of every child today in the main cities of Albania is at risk every day. And for those parents who have decided not to let them go out, they are, it is just as much at risk due to the excessive use of technology, that this is a separate story.

So, what is happening to this country? We have created a model and we have supported it time and time again by staying silent, a model of concretization, a model of massive construction. Maybe people are tired of talking about it, talking about it, but we have to say it again. This model that builds concrete, buildings and without caring about the quality of life, for well-being, for fields, for parks for children, but not only, for all of us. This model will be tested, will be exposed by these kinds of events. And such events, which are tragic, definitely make us scream more and more and call more and more and protest more and more after these things happen. But we must not stop there, we must change the model.

Because I am afraid, or rather, not afraid, I am convinced that as long as the model is not changed, such events will be repeated and repeated. So this is an issue that has a main responsibility, the provider of the model, which is Mr. Rama. It is Prime Minister Rama, it is this government. A model based on money laundering, on corruption, on massive construction, on the occult interests of the mafia or even of people connected to the mafia.

This model must be changed and if we do not raise our voices, if we do not oppose it, if we do not protest and this is related to all citizens. Of course, the opposition has a moral duty to be a vanguard, to protest even when citizens are not very convinced or when they are afraid to protest. And this is the duty of every oppositionist, of every democrat, to be there on May 8, to protest, to be a vanguard of citizens. But there is definitely a moral duty of society, of every citizen to protest for themselves, for themselves.

"May 8 is not a protest related to a political party. It is not related to the DP or any other party, but to a protest about citizenship, a protest about free people who want to establish the foundations of a state where their citizens react, where their citizens demand better for their lives," said Muçollari./ CNA
