WhatsApp may be banned in the UK

The social communication network WhatsApp may be banned from operating in the United Kingdom.

The warning was given by the head of this application, Will Cathcart. He says that the bill of the British authorities for Internet security can be the reason for this. Specifically, we are talking about the "end to end" mode for encrypted conversations, which WhatsApp applies and which has to do with the content of the messages.

End-to-end encryption is used in messaging services to prevent anyone but the recipients of a communication from being able to decipher it. 

Under the bill, the government or Ofcom could require WhatsApp to implement content moderation policies that would be impossible to comply with without removing end-to-end encryption. If the company refuses to do so, it could face fines of up to 4% of its parent company Meta's annual turnover - unless it pulls out of the UK market entirely./ CNA.al
