Experts warn: Creators of Artificial Intelligence must study consciousness

An open letter signed by dozens of academics from around the world calls on AI developers to learn more about consciousness as AI systems become more advanced.

"It is no longer in the realm of science fiction to imagine AI systems having human-level sentience and even consciousness," he says.

But this is only a function of Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence products are being deployed in many sectors, including health research, marketing and finance.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk co-signed a letter recently saying further AI development should be suspended until effective security measures can be designed and implemented.

The Society for Mathematical Consciousness Science (AMCS), which compiled the open letter, titled "Responsible development of the AI ??agenda must include consciousness research", said it did not have a view on whether the development of AI in general must be discontinued./ CNA.al
