The FBI has warned people around the world not to use public chargers for their mobile devices.
The warning goes out to all Android or iOS smartphone and tablet users that a virus can give hackers access to the phone, tablet or computer.
This hacking method is called "juice jacking" and is a way to hack devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops that use the same data transfer cable as a simple USB or USB-C.
This usually happens in places where there are public charging stations, such as airports, shopping malls and cafes.
The aim of such attacks is to intercept sensitive data, but to date no confirmed cases have been reported, beyond various investigative efforts.

The FBI through its official Twitter account advises its users:
"Avoid using free charging stations at airports, hotels or shopping malls. Criminals have found ways to use public USB ports to inject malware and tracking software into devices. Take your charger and USB cable and use an outlet instead." /CNA.al
