OpenAI may stop doing business in the European Union due to its upcoming AI regulations, as the company's CEO, Sam Altman, has warned.
The upcoming EU AI law has caused "a lot of concern" for the company, particularly with recent extensions to its terms, which bring new obligations for large-scale AI systems such as ChatGPT and DALL-E.
In an interview after a speech in London, Altman stressed the importance of the details of the legislation, saying: "We will try to comply, but if we can't, we will simply stop operating there."
According to media reports, the CEO expressed concern that OpenAI's services could be considered "high risk" under the new EU law. Under the bill, it would require model makers to share details about the design of their systems, including training time, required computing power and other relevant information. In addition, it will mandate the provision of "collections of copyrighted data used for education"./Adapted from CNA.al
