Brazil bans Telegram app/Requests data on members of Nazi groups

By decision of the Federal Supreme Court, the "Telegram" platform was banned in Brazil.

The case is related to a dispute over Nazi groups active in Telegram, which federal police believe are responsible for the violence at schools.

Brazilian authorities have raised concerns that Telegram allows users to hide their data.

According to Brazil's Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, "Telegram" has been fined about $200,000 a day until it suspends data.

There are two groups operating on "Telegram", called "Anti-Semitic Front" and "Anti-Semitic Movement", which are claimed to be the reason why violence against children is being perpetrated in Brazil.

In recent months, there has been an increase in school violence in Brazil.

As a result, Brazilian authorities are asking Telegram for information about members of these anti-Semitic groups. Instead, this company has only submitted data to the administrator, which the justice has assessed as "Telegram's intention not to cooperate with the investigation".

Meanwhile, the government has issued orders to restrict the speech and behavior of such groups and blocked Telegram.

Also, it is estimated that the decision to ban "Telegram" is a big blow for former president Jair Bolsonaro, who hopes for a new mandate and has more than 2.5 million followers on this social network. He turned to Telegram because other social networks regularly deleted his posts.
