Coach Arbeloa announces departure from Real Madrid

As expected at Real Madrid, coach Alvaro Arbeloa has confirmed his departure at the end of the season.

The Spanish coach declared that the match against Athletic Bilbao would be his last in charge of the Madrid team. Arbeloa took charge of the team in January, following the departure of Xabi Alonso, at a difficult moment for the club.

In his statement, the former defender stressed that throughout the period he has put the interests of Real Madrid above his personal ambitions. He added that he feels ready for a new challenge after the experience gained during the last four months on the bench.

"I've been with Real Madrid for 20 years in many different roles. This will be my last match this season as Real Madrid coach and I don't know if it will be the last of my life as Real Madrid coach. I will try to enjoy it and focus on winning. Starting from Monday, I will have to think about what is best for me. I have taken the next step, I have improved a lot in these four months and I feel ready for new challenges," said Arbeloa.

Meanwhile, in Spain, there is increasing talk of Jose Mourinho's return to Los Blancos. The Portuguese is seen as the main candidate to start a new cycle in Madrid. Arbeloa leaves after a 20-year relationship with the club, where he has served as a player, coach and part of the academy.
