Lewandowski closes in on national team, only officialization missing

Poland were defeated 3-2 by Sweden in the World Cup play-off final, in a match that could have marked the end of Robert Lewandowski's international career.

After the meeting, the striker posted a photo of himself wearing the captain's armband on social media, with the song "Time to say goodbye" playing in the background.

He has not officially confirmed his retirement from the national team. Lewandowski has played 165 games for Poland since making his debut in 2008 against San Marino, when he was 20 years old.

He has scored 89 goals, a figure that far exceeds any other Polish player. With the national team, he has only qualified for the World Cup twice, with the best result being the round of 16 in 2022.

Meanwhile, his future at Barcelona remains uncertain. This season he has scored 16 goals in 37 matches in all competitions.
