Chiesa seeks return to Italy, but salary becomes an issue

Federico Chiesa is a name that a few years ago represented the future of Italian football. With his excellent performances during Euro 2020, where he played a decisive role in Italy's success, he was considered among the most talented players of his generation.

However, the course of his career has changed. After a serious injury and several lackluster seasons, his market value has dropped significantly. The transfer to Liverpool did not turn out as expected. In his first season in England, Chiesa's contribution was limited to just 466 minutes of play, of which 104 minutes were spread over six league games.

This situation has directly affected his valuation as a player. From a market value that exceeded 70 million euros, Chiesa can currently be transferred for an amount estimated at around 10 million euros. However, the main obstacle lies not in the card, but in his salary. With a salary of 7 million euros per year, many clubs are hesitant to take the step to approach him.

One of the clubs that has shown interest is Napoli. The Neapolitan club has made a survey to take Chiesa on loan with an option to buy for 9 million euros, on condition that Liverpool contribute partially to covering his salary. The request for financial assistance from the English side has slowed down the progress of the negotiations.

Atalanta are also in the running, considering the Italian as an alternative to replace striker Lookman if the Nigerian striker leaves this summer.

For the player himself, the desire is clear and a return to Italy is required. For this reason, he has rejected an offer from Fenerbahçe. Meanwhile, clubs such as Milan and Roma are also keeping an eye on the situation.
