"Why do my feet hurt when it's cold?"

This is one of the questions that many of us may ask. We often associate this with the weather.

Joint pain can occur for a variety of reasons, but is often a symptom of an injury or disease.

You can experience pain in any part of your body, but discomfort from the change in weather occurs mainly in the hips, knees and ankles.

If you spend more time exercising in the cold, you'll put more pressure on your weight-bearing joints. The pain you feel may be caused by restricted blood flow to the joint or changes in pressure.

In some cases, the answer is obvious, as studies have shown that people with arthritis usually experience joint pain when the weather gets cold.

Some other theories suggest changes in atmospheric or barometric pressure, which refers to the weight of air that decreases in cold weather. This drop in barometric pressure can put pressure on your joints, causing nerves to transmit pain signals.

Another theory suggests that the synovial fluid inside your joints thickens in cold temperatures, causing joint stiffness and pain in cold weather.

It is also known that during the colder months the body tries to conserve more heat and sends more blood to the organs in the middle of your body, such as the heart, lungs and digestive organs.

As a result, your body sends less blood to your legs, knees, arms, shoulders, and other joints. This reduced blood flow causes the blood vessels in the joints to constrict, making the areas stiffer and colder, and causing pain and discomfort.

This explanation only applies to the pain you feel while out.

Staying warm can help reduce joint pain.

Some ways to stay warm and avoid sore feet in cold weather are:

Do exercises that warm you up

Perform exercises that stimulate your cardiovascular system by increasing blood flow to your muscles and raising your body temperature.

Dress thicker

Wear suitable clothes that protect you from the cold, especially when you exercise outside.

Stay inside on very cold days

If you must exercise every day, exercise indoors when the winter is harsh.
