In a ceremony held today, the Municipality of Gjirokastra awarded the title of "honorary citizen" to the Italian ambassador in Tirana, Fabrizio Bucci

The ceremony of handing over the title was organized in the premises of Ismail Kadare's apartment with the participation of the highest local leaders.

The honorary citizen title was given to him with the motivation: "For the contribution made to the strengthening of the historical ties and the current cooperation between Italy and Gjirokastra. Gratitude for his attention and influential initiatives in raising relations to an even higher level, thanks to the realization with the success of programs and projects in the fields of culture, tourism, economy and education"

The Italian ambassador has appreciated the appreciation given to him by the Municipality of Gjirokastra, stating that he will return not as an already appointed ambassador to Germany, but as an ordinary citizen.

"It is a great honor for me after 5 years spent here in Albania, as I am a friend of hers. After 5 years I finished my mandate, but Albania will always stay in my heart and I will return here. The Italians are the first to come here for tourism, the groups are growing as they come, businessmen are also investing, and the relations between the two governments have strengthened even more in these years.

Bucci also spoke about the political crisis in our country and the tensions between the position and the opposition

Unfortunately, the political situation in Albania continues to be conflictual, in a few months there will be elections and I hope that it will be a campaign based on facts and programs, since Albanian voters have the right and want to know the programs of the political parties. - the ambassador said, among other things.

The mayor of Gjirokastra Flamur Golemi appreciated Buci's contribution in these four years of his stay in Albania and especially the contribution he has given to Gjirokastra.
