Opposition protest/ US Embassy instructs citizens: Stay vigilant

The US Embassy in Tirana has today shared a call regarding the planned protest by the opposition, which is expected to be held this weekend, on Sunday, March 22nd.

Through a notice on the official website, the Embassy advises to remain vigilant and prioritize personal safety.

“A protest is planned for Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Protesters plan to gather near the Prime Minister’s Office building, located on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, between Mother Teresa Square and Skanderbeg Square. The protest may also spread to surrounding areas. Increased police presence, road closures, and traffic disruptions are expected in the hours leading up to and during the protest. U.S. Embassy personnel are advised to avoid the protest. Follow local media and follow the instructions of local authorities for the latest information. While protests and large gatherings often begin peacefully, the situation can change quickly. The protest may spread to surrounding streets and government buildings, causing traffic disruptions, detours, and road closures. Our ongoing guidance is to avoid protest areas.
