Kaso: The opposition's parliamentary space has been narrowed, the debate

Democratic MP Ivi Kaso said today that the opposition has faced a narrowing of parliamentary space and debate.

In his speech during the Committee on Civic Initiatives, Kaso stated that the debate arena is almost closed and exists only as a formality.

Kaso said that in this situation, the importance of the Parliament as an institution is also being lost.

"I wanted to raise the great concern that we as the opposition have about the narrowing of parliamentary spaces and the closing of the space for debate. This is a cardinal issue that should concern the Assembly and the debate arena, unfortunately in a completely formal exercise that loses its importance to the Assembly. Many colleagues may be surprised that I am discussing it in the committee. I do not think so, but I think it is an issue that should be discussed, not only because it is the chance to face a parliamentary committee, but also in the context of the proper functioning of the Parliament", - said Kaso./CNA
