Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech in the Assembly, spoke about the increase in salaries, saying that from January 2026 the minimum wage will be 500 euros. Rama stated that the average salary in the private sector has doubled, while in the public sector it has reached 1,000 euros.
He further announced that there will be a differentiated salary increase for employees with lower salaries. Rama also indicated the increase that will benefit certain categories of employees. The head of government said that in the Health sector, salary increases will be applied according to seniority. He indicated that while there will be an increase in pensions and salaries, contributions will not change.
"The minimum wage in Albania when we took office was 157 euros, today it is 500 euros. Meanwhile, we must keep in mind that the share of employees with the minimum wage has fallen from 60% to 14%. Which shows a continuous increase towards higher wages. We have doubled the average wage in the private sector. We have brought the average wage in the public sector to 1000 euros. For the first time, we will also introduce periodic wage indexation every two years. In order to strengthen families and support the increase in living standards. We have also foreseen differentiated wage increases to support employees with lower wages. Technicians, archivists, warehouse workers, protocolists will benefit from a salary increase of 10 thousand lek per month. Public administration specialists with 5 thousand lek. Teachers with 3 thousand lek. In healthcare, for the first time, the calculation of the doctor's seniority at work will also begin. This will also be done for employees of the State Police. Then according to seniority in the job also for inspectors and deputy commissioners. The total cost of these measures is 100 million euros. I want to emphasize something else that we are talking about taxes and fiscal burden. In big business, we are the country that taxes those who earn more more. I want to say something very important because there have been many kinds of words. It has been said that pensions, salaries but also contributions will increase. We will not make any increase in contributions at this stage. Everything that we will increase in the family budget is only a result of economic growth" , said Rama. /CNA
