Leka and the road code!

Leka and the road code!

Time has brought us to see many friends less and less often, some unfortunately we cannot
because they have passed away forever from this life, others because they are far away and forgotten in
their own troubles.

And the most paradoxical thing is that the reason for the meeting in most cases is the guys or girls
who come from abroad, the cell phone rings, messages are written and we gather.
This happened a few days ago!
They call me and tell me that Turi has arrived from Italy and we will gather in such and such a
place.

I went with great longing and desire because I had not seen it for years, if not decades.

After we hugged, we sat at the big table and asked each other questions about each other.
For reasons like these, and not only, the conversations are mostly about those who are not present; those who
unfortunately are no longer alive, or those who cannot come due to the distance and the troubles they have.

Without prolonging this introduction too much, so as to leave it at the stage of excitement and not boredom, the conversation opened
and memories of the time of youth were brought up with gusto. We were talking about Tom, our friend who emigrated to Canada and also practices the profession of
engineer there, he was smart and normal who managed to survive even in the 'wild world'.
Tom, a tenth-year student, after graduating from faculty was appointed to an institute, and he began
his studies, which he had been passionate about since high school.

We continued to gather at Lana's bridge before starting our dinner tour, while
our friend began to show his age-related wrinkles, which became more and more noticeable.
When someone asked us, we started joking.

-Hey, where's Tomi, we can't see him!!
-Aaaa, the friends would turn to them in turn, Tomi has started a scientific study with very
high values ??for the socialist economy.
-He's in the working group at the institute... that is preparing genetic transformations to shape
watermelons from round to square.
The normal questioner would shrug his shoulders, because the 'answer' was so acted out that it captured high levels
of credibility.
-And why do watermelons need to be made square when nature has miraculously created them as spheres, so
beautiful!
-Here is the scientific and economic value of the study, the other friend would come into play, because it increases
the profitability of transport, the 'Albanians' that export watermelons abroad load more goods,
the cost is reduced, oil, tires are saved, and profits increase.

All of this seemed so believable that after a while it no longer seemed like  a lie to us, but the truth.

From among the crowds, Turi, out of ignorance and social curiosity, addressed me.

-Friend, are you at work or have you retired!
-No no, I'm on duty, they won't let me leave, I said, because I have a study in hand and
I have to submit it at least next year.
He shrugged a little, with a little disbelief on his lips at the thought that I remain who I was and
pass things off as a joke.
-What kind of study is this, he raised his eyebrows in surprise!!
-I'm doing research on the early elements of the road code in the Kanun of Lek
Dukagjini.
When I put the topic of 'scientific research' on the table, everyone stopped talking and turned
to the two of us who were quietly chatting.
-Squeeze your imagination, I gave myself courage and I had to make a kind of 'presentation' like
before the committee for defending the title.

Of course, the acting and historical facts had to be as believable as possible because the 'audience'
of the society table was of a high average, they didn't eat without cheese.

-Listen...!
-People have been moving around since ancient times, within urban residential areas, as well as over
long distances, through cobblestone streets, dirt roads, paths and slopes.
As a result, even then, accidents, falls, collisions, fights and even bloodshed, injuries and loss of life have occurred
.
These are brought to us as events in legends, ballads, songs and rhapsodies, because in the Middle Ages there were no
institutions of the modern state, 'traffic police' INSTAT, etc.
From the passionate 'presentation' I had the impression that at those moments the conversations at
the adjacent tables also stopped.
-Don't embarrass me, I bit myself and continued.

Leka, this great constitutionalist should have foreseen everything so that Albanians would
not be killed for no reason, not you, not me, give way because..., why did you overtake, me first, you second, why you and
not me, etc. etc.
Especially since we are in conditions of a total lack of modern signage.

If you notice carefully, Leka has entire chapters in his Kanun that talk about the manner and
obligation of how Albanians should circulate, for example, the 'caravan of goods', 'caravans of goods
', how two armed men who exchange on the road like two cars with automatic transmission should act
, stopping points, Pit Stops, inns, 'gas stations' with hay, the queue for drinking
water, parking lots, resting animals, etc.

Legends that have come down to us with many colors to this day say that  bloody events have occurred precisely on these occasions, and we have in many regions and different places  named objects that point precisely to these 'accidents'.
For example!
The path of the in-laws, the well of the brides, the grave of the lover, etc. etc. I stopped a little to change the next slides and continued on.
-So!
If you notice carefully, Lek Dukagjini was very far-sighted!

Not only has it made it possible to discipline traffic for the time with the vehicles and roads of
that time, but it has reduced the number of accidents, deaths and injuries, and above all, it has
also brought us the impetus for the creation of a modern code that today we call; 'The Highway Code of...'.

I stopped my 'presentation' here for two reasons:
Fear that someone would copy my study and present it as their own.
Since few plagiarisms happen today, come on, solve the copyright issue!
And finally, convinced that I had impressed not only Turi, who had come from Italy, my friends
nearby, but also the tables around him.

This is what fantasy does to you!
It takes you from Tom's square watermelons to the elements of the road code in Lek
Dukagjini's Kanun.
The reason is meeting friends and acquaintances after so many years and decades!/CNA
