Political scandals in Albania do not only show the behavior of a few individuals. They highlight the quality of the state. When institutions react only after public outcry, not from their control mechanisms, we have a state that moves by impulse, not by order.
When auditing, administration, investigative bodies, parliament, and oversight mechanisms fail to stop abuse in time, then the scandal becomes the way the public finds out what happened, not the way the system prevents it. This is a serious alarm.
Equally alarming is the excessive personalization. Every affair is linked to a name, a minister, a mayor, a director. But the problem often goes deeper than the person. If the scheme that produced it remains in place, the next scandal is only a matter of time.
There is, but not quickly and not with empty rhetoric. The exit begins when the public refuses to be fooled by cosmetic dismissals and demands full responsibility. It begins when the media is not satisfied with a strong headline, but follows the case to the end. It begins when justice is measured not by conferences, but by tangible results.
Another thing is important: the standard must be the same for everyone. If a scandal is treated as a disaster when it is committed by the opponent and as a misunderstanding when it is committed by "ours", then we do not have a battle for transparency, but a fight for the line in power. The public recognizes this hypocrisy and precisely because of it they lose trust.
Albania has no shortage of information. There is a shortage of lasting consequences. Scandals erupt, names circulate, documents are published, officials are defended, debates flare up, and then the system tries to digest everything. This is the real battle - not to just uncover the next affair, but to disrupt the mechanism that makes it repeatable.
Until this happens, every citizen must ask the simplest and strongest question: not just who was caught today, but who is still keeping this model going./ CNA
