Next James Bond/ Brosnan: It has to be British

Actor Pierce Brosnan said in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph that the next 007 agent should be British. The former James Bond stated that it was the right decision to hand over the creation of the film to Amazon.  

"I hope Amazon treats the work and the character with dignity, imagination and respect," Brosnan said. Amazon MGM Studios will decide on Daniel Craig's successor as agent 007.

Among the most talked-about names to don the 007 suit are James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, all British. In the past, the role of James Bond has only been played by two non-British actors, Australian George Lazenby and Irishman Pierce Brosnan.

No American actor has ever played James Bond, and now Californian Austin Butler is in the running. Other non-British names rumored to follow Craig include Irish stars Paul Mescal, Cillian Murphy and Aidan Turner, or Australian Jacob Elordi.

In the deal announced last month, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson will remain co-owners of the franchise, but Amazon MGM Studios "will gain creative control."/ CNA
