Sexual harassment allegations/ Trial against actor Gerard Depardieu today

French actor Gerard Depardieu will appear in court in Paris today. Depardieu is accused of sexually harassing two women during the filming of the 2021 film "The Green Shutters."

76-year-old Depardieu is accused of sexually assaulting a 34-year-old assistant director and a 54-year-old costume designer on the set of the film.

Prosecutors allege that Derpardieu made lewd comments and inappropriate touching towards two women, who have filed formal complaints. Their identities have not been released to protect victims of sexual assault.

The French actor denies the allegations. In an open letter published in 2023 in Le Figaro, Depardieu wrote: "Never, never, have I abused a woman."

Depardieu's trial was originally scheduled for October 2024, but was postponed due to the actor's health. His lawyer, Jérémie Assous, said the actor had undergone a quadruple heart bypass and suffers from diabetes. A court-appointed medical expert ruled that he was fit to stand trial. He is expected to attend the two-day hearing.

French actor Depardieu, one of the most notorious figures in French cinema, has been accused of misconduct by around 20 women in the past, but none of the cases have gone to court. The court is expected to hear witness testimony during the trial. A ruling is not expected immediately./ CNA
