Man wins $500,000 lottery, but forgets ticket at store

A pastor in Iowa in the US won $500,000 in a lottery, but amid the excitement, he forgot the winning ticket inside a store.

"I was so excited and shocked that I left the ticket inside Casey's and went out to the car and started calling everybody," Kevin Frey told Iowa Lottery officials, The People reports. 

The 64-year-old bought the ticket and ended up taking the eighth of the 14 top prizes in the "Ca$500,000" lottery. 

However, it wasn't until the New Hampton man texted his grown son about his win that he realized the ticket was still in the store, lottery officials noted.

"I ran back in and asked the clerk for the ticket. She was so shocked, she forgot to give it to me the first time. So we finally got her on the right page," he said. 

Frey hopes to move to the Des Moines area when he and his wife retire to be closer to family. He also plans to use the money for long-term plans and investments, he told lottery officials. /CNA
