Ismail Kadare, the master of the Albanian pen, turns 86 today.

The writer of many popular works, has left an invaluable mark on the world of books.

The literary genius, originally from Gjirokastra, started writing in his youth and since then has never let go of the pen.

He stands out mainly for prose, but his invaluable contribution has also extended to dramaturgy, poetry and translations.

Ismail Kadare's fame is known beyond Albanian borders and his works have been translated into about 45 different languages, representing our literature worthily.

Kur Shqipëria po rimëkëmbëj nga pasojat e komunizmit, Kadare e prezantonte atë nëpër botë. Në vitin vitin 1996 shkrimtari shqiptar u bë anëtar për jetë i Akademisë së Shkencave në Francë.

Jehonë ndërkombëtare, Ismail Kadaresë iu bë menjëherë sapo romani “Gjenerali i Ushtrisë së Vdekur” u botua në Frengjisht, vepër e cila më pas u përkthue në gati 20 gjuhë.

Pas kësaj, nëpër botë bënë bujë edhe veprat “Dimri i Vetmisë së Madhe”, “Kronikë në Gur”, “Vit i Mbrapshtë”, “Koncert në fund të dimrit”, “Përbindëshi”, “Nata me hënë”, e shumë të tjera.

Disa herë kandidat i çmimit “Nobel” në letërsi, Kadare u nderua dhe me dekoratën më të lartë franceze “Komandant i Legjionit të Nderit”.

Also, the colossus of Albanian literature has been awarded the "Prix Mondial Cino Del Duca", "Man booker International Prize", "Prince of Asturias for the Arts", "Lerici Pea" and "Honor of the Albanian Nation".
