Serious in Italy/ 25-year-old woman arrested for murdering her newborn children

A 25-year-old woman was arrested today in Pellaro, Reggio Calabria, Italy, on charges of drowning her children immediately after birth.

The babies were found dead in a closet in a house in the summer of 2024.

Italian media reports that she gave birth at home and hid the two bodies under a blanket, after wrapping them in a sheet. The 25-year-old has never wanted to specify the reasons for her actions.

The incident does not appear to be the result of any family problems. Police investigations have revealed that the double murder of the babies was not an isolated case.

The girl is suspected of having given birth to another baby two years ago, drowning it and burying it in a field near her home. Police sniffer dogs and scanners are searching a wide area for the remains of the little body. /CNA
