Dritan Rexhepi suffers defeat/ the Constitutional Court upholds the decision

The "King of Cocaine", as Albanian drug boss Dritan Rexhepi is known, has suffered a major defeat in the judicial process.

Rexhepi had asked the Constitutional Court to annul the decision of the Supreme Court of November 27, 2020, where the sentence of 25 years in prison for the charge of "premeditated murder" was upheld.

But the Constitutional Court did not pass the case for trial, thus rejecting the request.

The constitutionalist argued that his individual appeal was filed beyond the 4-month time limit from the issuance of the Supreme Court's decision, as provided for in the law.

Dritan Rexhepi was justified by saying that he could not make the request before, since at that time he was serving a prison sentence in Ecuador.

However, the Court has estimated that the request does not meet the legal criteria for its passage for consideration in the plenary session./ CNA
