VIDEO/ Iranian drones attack oil refinery in Saudi Arabia, giant cloud of smoke in the air

The conflict in the Middle East continues to widen. According to the Saudi Arabian military, the Ras Tanura oil refinery was recently attacked by Iranian drones.

"Two drones that attempted to attack the Ras Tanura refinery this morning were intercepted and destroyed ," Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry said.

The statement said a fire broke out as a result of falling debris during the interception operation, adding that there were no civilian casualties. Ras Tanura, near Dammam, has a capacity of over half a million barrels of crude oil per day. Footage posted online showed thick clouds of smoke rising from the oil refinery. 

The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday, killing several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran retaliated with a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as certain locations in several regional countries that host US bases, notably Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.  /CNA
