Ukrainian army: We shot down 22 Russian drones that targeted Odesa

Ukraine's air defense systems have shot down 22 of 25 Iranian Shahed drones launched by Russian military forces in the Odesa region in the early hours of September 3, the Ukrainian air force said.

At least two civilians were injured in "a series of attacks" that hit infrastructure on the Danube River, Ukrainian authorities said, adding that the attacks lasted for more than three and a half hours.

The Danube has become Ukraine's key grain shipping route since the expiration of a United Nations-brokered deal that allowed the commodity to be transported safely through the Black Sea.

Since then, Russia has increased its attacks on the southern Ukrainian regions of Odesa and Mykolaiv, important grain shipping areas.

It is not known exactly which port was hit, but the Ukrainian army said it quickly extinguished the fire caused by the attacks.

Moscow has not yet commented on these Ukrainian statements.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

President Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
