Ukraine: We shot down 29 out of 30 Russian missiles

One person was killed and two were injured when a Russian missile hit an industrial building in the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa, according to Ukrainian authorities. Russia launched 30 cruise missiles at various parts of Ukraine on Thursday morning. However, Ukrainian officials said they managed to shoot down 29 of them.

Ukrainian officials say Russia has fired 30 missiles from ships at various parts of the country, 29 of which Ukrainian forces say they shot down. Ukrainian forces announced that they had also shot down two explosive drones and two reconnaissance drones on Thursday morning.

A military spokesman said one person was killed and two were wounded by a Russian missile that penetrated and hit an industrial building in the southern Odesa region.

Loud explosions were also heard in Kiev as Kremlin forces targeted the capital for the ninth time this month. This is a clear escalation after weeks of calm and ahead of a long-awaited Ukrainian counter-offensive using newly supplied advanced Western weaponry.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for more pressure on Russia after further attacks across the country on Wednesday.

"Russian grenade attacks today in the city of Kherson took the life of another child, a boy. He would have turned 6 in July. It was another artillery attack by terrorists. Bombings like this and in other regions show that we need more world consolidation to put pressure on Russia, even more strength for our soldiers to destroy every terrorist position, and even more support for our people to to save lives and return security to our cities and villages," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Russia and Ukraine nevertheless agreed on Wednesday evening to extend the deadline for a deal that allows grain shipments from Ukraine's Russian-controlled Black Sea ports to global markets to ease world food shortages.

The agreement is now valid until July 18./ VOA
