EU leaders unlock €50 billion support package for Ukraine

All 27 European leaders have agreed on an aid package of 50 billion euros for Ukraine, said the president of the European Council, Charles Michel.

"We already have an agreement," Michel wrote on the "X" social network.

He emphasized that the agreement "closes a stable, long-term and predictable financing for Ukraine".

There were fears that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban would block the aid package, as he had already done at a European summit last December.

Orban had said he wanted to force a review of EU policy towards Ukraine and questioned the idea of ??committing to funding Ukraine for the next four years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was "grateful" to EU leaders, stressing that the decision was taken by all 27 leaders. /CNA
