Another train accident in Spain/ Driver dies, 37 injured

A train driver was killed and at least 37 people were injured, five of them seriously, after a commuter train derailed and crashed near Barcelona on Tuesday night. The accident came just days after a fatal collision between two trains in southern Spain.

The Rodalies train collided with a retaining wall that had fallen onto the tracks between Gelida and Sant Sadurní, local authorities said. Emergency services evacuated all passengers and one person who was trapped inside the train was rescued.

The accident occurred during heavy storms that hit northwestern Spain. Another train on the Barcelona train network also derailed due to a rock slide caused by the storm, but no injuries were reported. Rail services have been suspended while safety checks are carried out.

These accidents occur just two days after a catastrophic collision involving two high-speed trains in Adamuz, Andalusia, where at least 42 people lost their lives, making it one of the worst rail accidents in Spain in the last decade./ CNA
