"Macron will not join the Peace Board"/ Trump: He will leave office

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 200% tariff on some French products. He said the move would push French President Emmanuel Macron to join a “Peace Board” that he says aims to resolve global conflicts.

When a reporter asked Trump if Macron had said he would not join the board, the president said he would be leaving office very soon. 

"Did he say that? Well, nobody wants him. He's going to be out of office very soon. I'm going to put a 200 percent tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he's going to join, but he's not obligated to join," Trump said.

The US president initially proposed the creation of the Peace Board when he announced his plan to end the war in Gaza last September. But an invitation sent to world leaders last week outlines a broader role in ending conflicts globally.

Governments reacted cautiously Sunday to Trump's invitation, a plan that diplomats said could undermine the work of the United Nations. On Monday, Trump also said he had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to be a member of the peace board. /CNA
