Shooting in Florida/ 9 people injured

Nine people were injured in a shooting on a boardwalk in the city of Hollywood, Florida, sending people running along the waterfront, which was heavily populated as Memorial Day was celebrated.

The health authorities announced that three children and 6 adults were injured and that all were in a stable condition.

Police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi said four children between the ages of 1 and 17 and five adults between the ages of 25 and 65 were also hit.

The incident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. local time in the state of Florida. An argument escalated into the use of at least one gun while several shots were fired.

At least one person is in custody for the incident, but police forces continue to search for other suspects.

Police officials said that at the time the gunfight was recorded, there were thousands of people in the area, but also dozens of police officers who reacted immediately.

The police said that there will be an increased presence of officers at the scene while the investigations continue./VOA
