Serbian protesters injured 30 soldiers/ NATO increases forces in Kosovo

In response to the recent unrest in the north of Kosovo, and the injury of 30 members of the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR), the North Atlantic Alliance has decided to commit the Reserve Operational Force for the Western Balkans, which has been in state of readiness for engagement.

NATO announced this decision through a post on "Twitter".

Members of KFOR clashed on Monday, May 29, with Serbian protesters in Zveçan, who opposed the entry of the new Albanian mayor into the municipal building.

According to NATO, the decision to increase the number of forces was taken so that KFOR can guarantee security, in accordance with its mandate.

Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, NATO commander for forces in Naples, commended KFOR soldiers for their swift and restrained response to prevent unrest and save lives.

"The violence must stop, and all parties must avoid actions that undermine peace in Kosovo," said Munsch./ REL
