Sullivan ends the term of the American ambassador to Russia, leaves Moscow

Ambassador John Sullivan

The American Embassy in Russia announced John Sullivan's departure from Moscow due to the end of his term as ambassador.

The notice published on the website said that Mr. Sullivan, who was appointed to the post in 2019 by former President Trump, served for almost three years.

A US State Department official said that " Ambassador Sullivan's departure was planned and part of a normal diplomatic rotation".

"He has served a full term as US ambassador to Russia, managing one of the world's most critical bilateral relationships for an unprecedented period, " the US official said on condition of anonymity.

The embassy announcement also said Mr. Sullivan will retire from public service after a four-decade career that has seen him work for five US presidents. He has held the post of Deputy Secretary of State as well as other high positions in the Department of Justice, Defense and Trade./ VOA
